CFPB Stomps on CarHop for $6.5 million
The CFPB announced action against CarHop, one of the country’s biggest “buy-here, pay-here” auto dealers, and its affiliated financing company, Universal Acceptance Corporation, for providing damaging, inaccurate consumer information to credit reporting companies involving 84,000 accounts. The action requires CarHop and its affiliate to cease improper notifications, provide accurate information and pay a $6.5 million civil penalty. [12/18/15]
